If it doesn’t already, the Internet should be playing a massive role in your marketing strategies. It’s amazing how cheaply and easily you can showcase your work, offer a special or simply promote your business through online avenues. The most obvious place to start when you’re thinking of online marketing is your own website. What does it look like?
This is our landing page for StudioMax, our wedding photography division. It easily links to our other businesses including Julian’s mentoring page, our pet photography Max & Molly and also StudioDiva, our portrait business. There are so many options for websites these days, whether you design one from scratch, use a Tumblr or a WordPress template or get a professional to design one for you, there’s a few things to consider.
Your website must be simple, easy to use and of course display your best work. If a bride is searching for a wedding photographer, chances are shes’s going to search from website to website, so she needs to be attracted to yours within seconds, otherwise she’ll just move on.
When people are searching for a photographer, you can assume they’re searching for photographs they like. So in that vein, it makes sense to put all your best images on your home page to it’s the first thing seen. There’s no point having prospective clients click through a splash page, a beautifully worded introduction and then have them navigate to the gallery. That’s three clicks too many and you might lose them in the process! You want to impress them straight away with your images.
Additionally, it’s vitally important for a serious business to have their own website first, before getting excited with a Twitter or Facebook page. All the social media and third party websites can then direct the traffic back to your site that you have total control over. Of course, we have accounts for Julian on both Facebook and Twitter now, but a streamlined website was definitely first.
