Give them an inch and some will take a mile. Have you ever noticed when you do something extra special for the client, like some retouching outside of what is normally done, that the floodgates seem to open to a lot more requests? In my studios we give clients a DVD with their slideshow of images from their wedding and their names as part of the introduction. We’ve had clients ask for their name to be changed from Andrew to Andy and so on, which we used to do happily.

Then, because we were so accommodating, they would start requesting all different things! “Can you also swap this image for this one? Can you do this, or that?” So what did we start saying? “Yes, of course we can change your name on the DVD. That will cost xxx to recreate and reauthor the DVD for you.”
It’s amazing the difference to the level of importance of those changes once we started charging them! More often than not, the way it is suddenly became acceptable.
